Ford 4500/755 hoe
As far as I know, the 755 uses the same arrangement the 753 does, with a pair of single-acting cylinders, each attached to a half-chain. The cylinders are loose in the base, the chain is (as you must have seen if you replaced one) pinned in the center of the swing casting with a large pin. The cylinders only pull.

755 Swing Cylinder pouring out oil
If so, the packing has given up the ghost. You can get new cylnder packing from kit #FD-309939 for a 755 swing cylinder with 4.0 bore and 1.75 rod. My book is old, but the price was listed at $57.28. Again, I am not sure on the 755, but normally the seat platform comes off to access the swing cylinders. Good luck! jb

Backhoe Swing Chains
Same system is also on 750 and 755 hoes. I can replace the pin just fine and will do so given the price of new chains - the problem is that my service manual is still in the mail (assuming it actually adresses this question), and I can't figure how to get enough slack to reassemble the darn thing. The swing cylinders are single acting.

I have a 1967 ford 4500 backhoe with a 3-cyl diesel eng. Not sure what model the backhoe is but it has a 15 foot reach. One swing arm ram is leaking hydraulic fluid badly and I would like to know how to remove the ram. I see that I can disconnect the hose from the valve and obviously the chain, but can't find any bolts holding the ram in place.
