Anyone own a small milling machine?
The harbor freight mini-mill is a fair bit bigger than the sherline and takes R8 tooling, and it's made of iron vs aluminum. For $500 new I'd go with that if I wanted a small mill. Regarding Harbor Freight's own branded tools, IME as a contractor, they are next to worthless.

Harbor Freight Mini Lathe I Want To Add A Milling Head
Ok Here is some more info. The SKU is 31316 and it is Labeled Harbor Freight Made in China Bench Lathe. I found a couple of mill heads on ebay but they mount in the middle of the machine. The one in the pict mounts to left side. I could probaly make the ones I found on ebay work, but I would have to drill holes in the casting to bolt it on.

Central Machinery ?? Anyone...
So if I'm buying a cheapo mill, I'll get in line at the cheapest vendor, rather than hope that I'll mysteriously get a real bang-up specimen at a more expensive vendor. The cheapest for that machine are usually Harbor and Wholesale. On the other hand, if I'm paying for higher quality I'll buy a different machine altogether and get higher quality.

Thanks for the reply. I haven't taken the load off ( belt drive), but I will tomorrow. I agree on the frequency/rpm sound line of reasoning. I haven't fooled with the motor, the bearings I want to service, ( I'll start with repacking), are the two bearings on the lathe chuck drive assembly.
