This material comes apart over time, leaving a large gap, which permits all output air to escape before exiting the vents.

Another possibility for the decreased air flow is the a/c is freezing up. Your freon may be at the level were on the warm days it works fine, but on the hotter days it can't keep up which leads to the freezing. You can probably go to a good automotive a/c repair shop and they could test the level for nothing or a very inexpensive fee.

By a tad low, per spec, it should be exiting the vents at around 42 degrees. Factoring in thermometer variances, etc, I'd say that you're fine. The mode door is what changes the position of the incoming air, from say footwell to defrost to vents. Your mechanic is right, it wouldn't be the blend door, as that brings in heat versus cold.

I can cycle through the options with the selector switch and everything works as far as the floor/defrost vents go but I'm not getting anything at all from the dash vents. Speed control for the blower and heat control both work. I replaced both the actuators behind the radio/hvac controls last summer after one of the gears stripped out.
